Welfare and social services

Mary Ward wanted women to play a pivotal role in society and to engage openly with the community. Today Loreto Sisters are actively involved in planning, providing, advocating for and funding welfare and social services.
“Everybody has the capacity to be open and available. If our eyes, ears and hearts are open there is much we can do.”

Early intervention and child services
The Loreto Sisters work directly in and provide funding for early intervention services that deliver support and development programs for families with children aged up to 12 years.
Youth services
The Loreto Sisters are committed to supporting the needs of young people, particularly youth at risk, and giving them a better start in life through education, employment and health programs. This is achieved by sisters working and volunteering in youth services and by directing funding to where it is needed most.
Indigenous services
The Loreto Sisters have a commitment, in particular, to the education of young Aboriginal people in the Kimberley, Alice Springs and the Wilcannia-Forbes Diocese.
Family services
Loreto Sisters are involved in providing programs, accommodation and support to families facing serious illness, and families and individuals at risk of or experiencing homelessness, domestic violence and other serious disadvantage.
