Our schools and colleges

"This set me thinking and wishing our dear Loreto children were a ‘row of goodly pearls’. I would string my pearls on a triple cord, strong and sure."
Mary Gonzaga Barry

Loreto college, BallaratHistorically, education in schools has been the most significant work in which Loreto sisters have engaged. In the early days, 90 per cent of sisters took on school related roles upon completion of novitiate. While Loreto Sisters no longer occupy principal or teaching roles in their schools, the Loreto traditions are still integral to the education carried on in them. We are committed to maintaining these schools, ensuring that school councils, principals and staff have access to the spirituality of Mary Ward.

Some Loreto sisters continue to work in schools in various ancillary roles, such as tutoring, and we are proud that we have handed on to excellent lay leadership schools that continue to offer first class education.

Other sisters continue to be involved as chairs or members of schools boards and initiatives such as the National Education Board for Loreto and FCJ Schools, the Loreto Futures Team and Loreto Schools Advisory Committee.
