  • Education for self-determination and social responsibility
  • Direct actions furthering justice, peace and the integrity of creation
  • Against causes of injustice and violence.




Types of Loreto projects that incorporate these principles can include:

  • community development – including leadership and organisational training
  • rural development
  • community savings and micro-credit schemes
  • adult education – life skills, vocational training, literacy and numeracy
  • health assessment, medical and surgical care, therapy and rehabilitation.
  • hostel accommodation and other support to enable access to health and education for people from remote and conflict areas
  • primary, secondary, tertiary education for children and young people.

We fund Loreto projects that work with poor people and those marginalised by society especially:

  • women, children and young people who are experiencing or have experienced violence, conflict, exploitation, neglect and abuse
  • vulnerable minority groups (e.g. indigenous people)
  • people with disabilities and experiencing illness
  • migrants, refugees and asylum seekers
  • young people at risk.

Strong Young Mums sewing class, AustraliaPriority is given to projects:

  • unable to find sufficient assistance from governments, organisations or other sources
  • in countries with fewer resources particularly in Asia and the Pacific
  • in rural and remote Australia.
