MWIA supports Loreto projects that incorporate these principles:
Education for self-determination and social responsibility
Direct actions furthering justice, peace and the integrity of creation
Against causes of injustice and violence.
Types of Loreto projects that incorporate these principles can include:
community development – including leadership and organisational training
rural development
community savings and micro-credit schemes
adult education – life skills, vocational training, literacy and numeracy
health assessment, medical and surgical care, therapy and rehabilitation.
hostel accommodation and other support to enable access to health and education for people from remote and conflict areas
primary, secondary, tertiary education for children and young people.
We fund Loreto projects that work with poor people and those marginalised by society especially:
women, children and young people who are experiencing or have experienced violence, conflict, exploitation, neglect and abuse
vulnerable minority groups (e.g. indigenous people)
people with disabilities and experiencing illness
migrants, refugees and asylum seekers
young people at risk.
Priority is given to projects:
unable to find sufficient assistance from governments, organisations or other sources
in countries with fewer resources particularly in Asia and the Pacific
in rural and remote Australia.
